How to scan an ID card on iPhone

A useful ID copy must be readable without glare, missing edges, or a cropped identifier. It also contains sensitive information, so scan and share it only when necessary.

1. Check the recipient's requirements

Some organizations require a specific side, color image, resolution, or file format. Confirm what they need before making or sending a copy.

2. Reduce glare

Place the card on a matte, contrasting surface. Use bright indirect light and slightly change the phone angle if a laminate or hologram reflects the light source.

3. Capture every edge

Keep the whole card inside the frame and review the automatic crop. Preserve every printed corner, photograph, barcode, and relevant identifier.

4. Keep color when it matters

Use the original or color result when security marks, photographs, or colored fields are important. A black-and-white filter may hide details the recipient needs.

5. Export the requested format

Choose PDF for a document-style copy or JPG/PNG when the recipient explicitly asks for an image.
